- 募集要項にはN2と書いてありますが、最初の学期はN3くらいの会話でなんとかなります。 大変なのは教科書を読むほうです。

- 日本語のタイピング。半年くらい、みんなより遅かったです。

Before you apply
These rules come from immigration, not from the school.
You may work 28 hours per week at most. During long school holidays
the limit is 8 hours per day. You need a work permit (資格外活動許可) on your residence card.
Some jobs are not allowed at all — bars, pachinko, and similar places.
Ask the office first. Bring the job advertisement.
A teacher will check the hours and the type of work with you before you apply. It takes 5 minutes
and it has saved students their visa.

- What surprised you
- Almost every class is group work. I thought I would just listen and take notes, but I have to speak Japanese every day.
- Money outside tuition
- About 40,000 yen for a laptop and textbooks in the first month.
- Japanese you really need
- N2 is written in the requirements, but N3 level conversation is enough for the first term. Reading the textbooks is the hard part.
- What I should have done first
- Learned to touch-type in Japanese. Everyone else was faster than me for six months.

- There is a uniform and a hair rule. Nobody told me before I applied.

- Practising keigo. I only learned it two weeks before the interview.

- Visited a care home once before deciding. It is a job you should see first.

- Nobody checks if you come. You can fail without anyone telling you.

- Three or four classes a day, and long gaps between them. I use the gaps in the library.

- Writing. Every class ends with a report of 800–1,200 characters.
- What I should have done first
- The EJU practice, much earlier. I started three months before and that was late.

- The interview was not about Japanese. They asked why I chose Japan and what I want in 5 years.

- N2 was the line to apply. At work, the hard part is the telephone.

- First salary 195,000 yen before tax. Rent 58,000 yen. It is enough, but not much.

- Started looking one year before graduation. Companies close applications very early.
